This bug has plagued the community for a long time and it is time to put it to bed! There is an issue where Windows 2016 (1607) will not update properly, when you click the check for updates button it keeps coming back with “RETRY” over and over again, and if you look in WSUS you will notice that the server has not checked in either.

TIP: If you are using a 2016 WSUS server, rebuild using Server 2019 and your updating issues will go away! There is a bug between 2016 WSUS server and other 2016 servers that cause an extremely long update time in the 4-6 hours, after switching to a Server 2019 WSUS updates were reduced to under 5 minutes!

Issue:
The error 0x8024500c occurs on Windows 10 1607 when some combination of GPO settings is enabled.

When one of these settings is enabled, the “Do not connect to any Windows Update Internet locations” setting must not be enabled:
– Do not include drivers with Windows Updates
– Select when Feature Updates are received
– Select when Quality Updates are received

Solution:
Set the policy “Do not connect to any Windows Update Internet locations” as not configured. Then on the 2016 server run “gpupdate /force”, you will now be able to download updates correctly again!

Microsoft still has not released a fix for the 2016 server updates fiasco, and it is apparent there is not plan to release one, once again people are herded like cattle to the next windows version, what will 2019 have in store for everyone.
